pffft it never rains but pours.

(I'm speaking about inspiration to blog, btw)

I totally forgot about this incident that I thought was blog-worthy, but I've just been reminded, so here goes:

because the walls of my flat are pretty thin, you can pretty much hear your flatmates going about their stuff - like you can hear people opening cupboards/drawers etc, and of course, you can hear them skype-ing.

now my Polish flatmate speaks pretty loudly, so there was one day I could hear her skype-ing with her mom (i'm assuming that anyway). and obviously because I can't understand Polish, i didn't know what was going on, but i could tell she was pretty distressed. And then to my great discomfort, I could hear her starting to cry quite heartbrokenly! I was like, omg what to do! So I left my room to the kitchen so I wouldn't be eavesdropping (as if I wasn't already!) on her .. er emotional breakdown.

then after a bit she came out to the kitchen as well, so I was like, you know, how you doing and stuff. and then it was revealed that she was upset and trying to come to terms with her recent exam results (she's taking Chinese, yeah CHINESE! she probably knows more than ME now! though come to think of it, that's not really much of an achievement, but anyway.)

so I was being really sympathetic and telling her how I messed up my first few tests way back when (lol) I was a first year.

then it comes out that she got a 69/90 for it.

and she's trying to come to terms with how bad those results are.

and this is a person who's never spoken/read/studied Chinese before!

and oh, today she knocked on my door (which is what reminded me to blog about this) and asked if she could borrow an apple.

LOL!

basically, she eats 6 apples for dinner.

EVERY DAY.

and today she only had two. so she wanted to know if I had any extra that she could have for dinner today.

so cute right! hahaha

but it was serendipity, because I had just bought myself two punnets of plums and was wondering how the heck I was gonna finish the apples that I had in the frig before they went bad, because they'd been sitting there in awhile.

Clearly I don't dig apples as much as she does.

Unless they're stewed in sugar :)

or are in apple pies.

or are in juice form.

or are dried, and dipped in melted chocolate.

I digress.

and now comes that awkward moment where I don't know how to end this.

this morning i dreamt that i was at this massive buffet, and i had saved half my stomach for the awesome desserts but i kept on getting interrupted on my way to the desserts bar which i never managed to reach before i woke up.

and they'd had the pick and mix jellies/sour tape/gummies stuff too! pffft.

Met all the Malaysian and Singaporean students that are doing law today (that have arrived, that is). At the meet and greet session it was like almost automatic that the Asians would congregate together. Not that it's a bad thing, but like .. it really is a little difficult to mix with the locals. Like someone said,

they're polite, but not warm.

I suppose it would be rather intimidating for anyone else to approach a big group of Asians too, so I don't really blame them I suppose. Haha.

My flat is fully international though, which I really like. I've got Japanese, Italian (and they cook well too!) and Polish flatmates, and a Chinese girl moving in soon :)

And oh, the people here are really green! Kinda. Like, there's loads of flyers on how to be green and all, and almost all packaging is recyclable. But I dunno how many people actually make the effort to recycle - plus, the amount of flyers going around during Fresher's week is a little crazy. Haha.

I got a bike to get around, because it just takes tooo long to get to uni and back, and by the time I get into the flat, I'm tired and lazy to cook - perhaps explains the lack of culinary success?

Breaking the hiatus

Not many anecdotes from the journey here, but

1. DON'T leave your x-ray behind when you go through the screening at the airports. Oh waitaminute, just CHECK THE FREAKING X-RAY IN and keep the report with you! So you won't have to suffer carrying the sensitive document around and be embarassed when you leave it behind.

2. DON'T bring paper or tonnes of maggi mee (both of which I did, cis!) because you can get paper here at pretty much the same price (CIS to all you who said stationery is expensive!) and the food here is so freaking cheap! (see below)

3. If you're using a surprising amount of effort to open the door to the airplane washrooms, it's because there's probably someone inside using the same amount of effort trying to keep the door closed -____-

was pretty chuffed with my buys until I got home (wow, calling it home now) and my friend was like, [good tip alert] oh if you go at 5pm-ish they start reducing prices for the perishable items.

It's 6 days into the holidays and I'm already bored.

Grilled Chicken Breast with Orange Sauce

We didn't have any veggies - I know this would've looked better with a sprig of green somewhere.

Had to modify it abit because I didn't have some of the ingredients, but it actually didn't turn out too bad. So if I, the cooking noob can do it, so can you! :D *cue cheesy smile*

always shake it first

wah, 34 posts already?! i don't even remember what i wrote about. er. anyway.

so today i was hungry cos dinner was small, so i decided to go get myself some supper from sect 14 on the way home.

something meaty and something milky was the thought.

so, ramly burger from outside 7-11 and chocolate milk from inside 7-11. yay!

i got home to find dad had just made supper. "supper", he said. more like a full meal.

but anyway.

so i got glass to put me milk in.

and being the good obedient girl, i followed the directions on the milk carton.

shake shake shake.

and opened it, to pour out .. a chocolate milk shake. seriously. the constituency was bleearrghhh. i was like, EW, what the! it was like, lumpy and thick. and snotty. haha.

great. so i go allll the way back there to return it, or burn my rm3.20. the problem was, i didn't have any evidence.
(Putting my new knowledge of evidence into practice)
I had no receipt, so i can't prove that i had bought it at that 7-11 store at that particular time. So, documentary evidence, Ileh.

And the expiry date wasn't up yet either. So no proof of purchase.
But, there was the price tag? And i could bring the whole carton in .. but i doubt it would last by trial time, so real evidence, Ileh again.

BUT i could subpoena the cashier to testify as a witness that i bought it. Testimony, check.
And also the Ramly Burger guy cos i was holding the packet when i collected my burger. Circumstantial evidence, check.

Um, anyway. Thinking i should stand up for my consumer rights and all i decided to go allll the way back there - i even brought the cup with me just in case they didn't believe me.

and the weirdest thing was, when i stepped into the store and was like,
"Kak, tadi saya baru beli ni.. "

"Pergi tukar la"

"Hah? Tapi .."

"Tak pe, pergi tukar je"

"... tapi ..."

"Ambil yang baru punye, yang belakang skit"

but all the cartons look exactly the same and have the same expiry date ..
"Oh. Er ok" *smiles awkwardly

It was almost as if she knew that the milk that I bought was bad.
She didn't even look at the evidence! So much for being prepared.
(Good thing I left the cup in the car haha. Oh and btw, don't try driving with a cup of thick milk and an opened carton of thick milk. It could get messy. haha)

So to cut the long story short, I got the new carton (shook it first, then opened it in the store just in case) and here are the documentary evidence (oh wait, so i do have some la i guess) of the difference of good milk and bad milk.

on another note, i cooked myself (yeah man, all by my little self) a well-balanced home-cooked meal for the first time.
First time, being the 'well-balanced' part, not that I cooked something for the first time.

Ruski instant noodles, Tom Yam flavour - Carbs
Microwaved Hard-Boiled Egg - Protein
Stir-fried Green Veggies - Er Veggies. Oh. Vitamins and Fibre, i meant
Ribena - Er. Sugar

So yeah. You should totally try the Ruski Tom Yam, it's Yam-my! HAHAHA

Oh, and here's how you make the Microwaved Hard-Boiled Egg:

Step 1: Crack open the egg into any receptacle, the shallower the better (so the egg cooks evenly)
Step 2: Poke the egg yolk with a fork. This is to reduce exploding egg getting splattered around your microwave
Step 3: Cover the receptacle with a heavy er cover. Like, a heavy plate or something. Reason is as above (Step 2)
Step 4: Put covered receptacle in the microwave and microwaved it on High heat for 1 minute. Ignore exploding sounds.
Step 5: Check if egg is cooked to your desired consistency. If it is not yet fully hard-boiled (this happens when you have a deeper receptacle, ie only the outsides are cooked but the inside isn't), heat it up again for 1/2 a minute.
Step 6: Remove from microwave, add salt to taste (or you can add salt at Step 2, for a more evenly salted hard-boiled egg)

Tip: Always soak your receptacle and cover after eating. This is the only con for microwaved hard-boiled eggs - the washing up ;)

projectdailymillion is trying to get a million malaysians to sign the pledge that they'll

Reduce or stop altogether using plastic bags.
Just say NO THANKS when I am offered a bag.
Tell the shopkeeper every single time NOT to give plastic bags unless asked.
Bring my own cloth bag everywhere.
Reuse or recycle, not to let plastic bags end up in a landfill.
Start my own advocate and convince others to take this pledge.

Talentime: A Review

my first review, YAY!

as if anyone cares.

but to people reading this, go watch talentime. if it's still screening. (but don't go to TGV KLCC, their student rate is RM9?! and their wednesday cheap-movie rate is RM8! what. rubbish. rip-offs. bleh.)

i wouldn't say it's awesome, because that might raise hopes/expectations unnecessarily which might be let down (as what happened to me with Sell Out! -_-).

so go expecting the usual yasmin ahmad fare - the old school feel of old school Ipoh - the movie being slow-moving but needing to be such for us to really "feel" it. it sucks that she's gone though :(

and oh, the soundtrack is awesome btw. it's out for sale (yay!) as the Talentime OST but for RM27.oo (ceh!)

so anyway in the movie, when Hafiz started singing in his first appearance on screen (i think), we were like, whoaaa not bad ah! but then after he started talking we were like, ok can't be really him.

same goes for Pamela Chong's Melur, whose "Angel" was freaking awesome, but the voice didn't match the face (or the conversational-voice) la :P

Ms Sukania was also awesome as Mahesh's mom. apparently the tamil conversation was hilarious, but it was lost on me. and the subtitles come out too fast.

and Mahesh .. hmmm. HOT STUFF. we get to see his half-naked, ripped body TWICE! hahahahah. wish we could've heard him speak tho. it was all soulful/mournful expressions. Becca said maybe his voice sucks so they cast him as deaf/mute (no wait, conversationally- and hearing- challenged would be the politically correct terms to use) haha.

and i wish we could've seen a little more screen time of Kahoe.

there were some LOL moments, and a super krik-krik moment involving a park and some random babies-in-nappies playing. seriously. KRIK KRIK. i would post a picture of it, but it might spoil it for you guys. hahahaha

half of the laughter came from some hilarious co-patrons in the row behind us, who were super responsive to the movie's quirks, for eg.

Hafiz to doctor (regarding his ailing mom) (in the film): Isn't she getting any better?

Rude doctor (in the film): Of course not! (or something like that)

Enthusiastic Talentime-watcher: EH BODOH!

Me: *snigger*

and

Teacher (in the film): Hafiz, your ups next

Backbencher (in the cinema): UPS?!?

Me and the rest of the cinema: HAHAHHAHAHA

(the adding of -s or -st at the end of random words seems to be a weird speech defect for some malaysians. it's like, "oh that's my house-st" or something like that.)

and er yeah, that's it. the ending was .. tear-worthy, but like her other films, in Becca's words - "there's no real ending!"

anyway, i've been busy helping my dad at the MMU convocation bazaar over the weekend fri-mon. and wow, have there been alot of discoveries.

firstly, the chicken sits!

i never knew.

(my dad is selling them btw, they come in three sizes...

... and squawk like .. chickens. one emcee said it sounded like "ayam kena sembelih" and the other, "seramnyaa, takut nak tidur nanti". k fine, maybe he didnt say the last bit but he did say it was seram. and everybody looooves to squeeze them 'till they find out the price: RM6.50, RM14.00 and RM22.00 for the S/M/L chickens respectively. what to do, the cost price is expensive so have to recover our money right. seriously, we hardly get any profit from them. but waitaminute this post has nothing to do with the cost so i'll stop squawking nonsense)

that's rubbish. how can a chicken squawk be seram.

anyway. what was i saying? oh yeah, the chicken shits! *edit: haha what a typo! nah, it don't shit, it just sits. hehe

i always wondered the necessity of the butt thing. the emperor's nose, they call it. for some reason.

and yeah people have laughs/scares after obliging the "squeeze me!" sign on the chickens when they came past the store.

there was a little kid who was so delighted+amazed at the seram squawk (SS from hereafter) that she kissed it! ahaha. so cute.

where one vote makes a difference

Everybody says that when you're just one person doing something (ie, my one-man anti-plastic/polystyrene/disposables campaign), it doesn't make a difference. But here's an anecdote on how one vote really can make a difference.

On Wednesday, the 25th, we went to Duck King at Jaya One for Lin's birthday. I'd been there previously before and eaten the Prawn Cheong Fen. (YUMMY! Eat this when you get there! Though it's a whopping RM9.80 for a dish, you get at least one big prawn per section of Cheong Fen. But I digress)

So noone could decide if we wanted Peking Duck or normal Roasted Duck (which of course, Duck King is famous for). So we went round the table voting.

King (no, not the Duck King obviously. my brother, King. HAHAHHA): Anything la

Me: Roasted duck! (I mean, who wants to eat duck skin. ewwwww)

Dad: Anything la

Lin: Anything la

Popo: (Couldn't hear us so by default she didn't participate in the vote)

So it tallied up to: One vote for Roasted Duck, No votes for Peking Duck.

YAY, I WIN! VICTORYYYYY ^.^Y

So we had half roasted duck, half er non-roasted duck.

And after we were done, we saw a waiter walking past us with Peking duck to serve to the next table.

And my dad was like, Eh, how come we didn't order Peking duck?

And I answered, Because I won by my single vote cos noone else could take a stand.

SOOOO the moral of the story is, ONE VOTE MAKES A DIFFERENCE. which is why we should all go register as voters because the rate our political situation is going, you never know when our country would need your vote (which i think should be made compulsory like in Australia, but then, that's me).

It's really a simple process - just go to a post office and tell them you wanna register as a voter. They'll check your details and give you a form to sign and voila! You're registered!

Sime Darby Promotes Energy Efficiency Through Bulb-Exchange Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 June 2009 - Sime Darby Bhd today launched “Switch!”, an energy efficiency initiative targeted at over 10,000 households in townships developed by the Group in Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Klang.

Under this initiative, each household is encouraged to exchange old incandescent bulbs (ordinary bulbs) for new energy-saving (ES) bulbs. Compared to an ordinary incandescent light bulb, an ES light bulb of equivalent brightness uses up to 80% less energy and lasts almost 10 times longer.

In this first phase, Sime Darby is offering 100,000 ES bulbs for exchange at a heavily discounted price to any Sime Darby home in Subang Jaya, UEP Subang Jaya/USJ Heights, Bandar Bukit Raja, Ara Damansara, Denai Alam, Bukit Jelutong and Putra Heights.

Each household in these townships can purchase a box of eight (8) ES light bulbs at RM50, discounted from the usual retail price of about RM160. The bulbs will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who wish to participate in the programme must register in advance at www.simedarby.com/switch. The website is open for registration from today, and Sime Darby residents wishing to participate have one month to register, or until the 100,000 bulbs run out.

When they register to participate, Sime Darby residents from these townships can choose online where they would prefer to collect their bulbs. The four collection points are the Sime Darby sales galleries at Ara Damansara, Bandar Bukit Raja, Wisma UEP Subang Jaya or Sime Darby Pavilion in Bukit Jelutong. For convenience, participants will have two weeks from 25th July 2009, the date of the launch event, to make the switch at these galleries.

As an added incentive to switch to a more energy efficient lifestyle, Sime Darby is collaborating with the Energy Council of Malaysia (ECOM) to design a special competition for households that show significant reduction in their average electricity usage in the 12-months after the launch of the event.

Besides ECOM, this Sime Darby project is done in partnership with lamp-producer OSRAM, which is manufacturing a special batch of ES bulbs for the event, and Kualiti Khidmat Alam, which will handle any old bulbs that homeowners may wish to dispose of when they collect their new ES bulbs.

Sime Darby Property Managing Director YTM Dato’ Tunku Putra Badlishah says the event will have a significant and wide-ranging impact. “Switching bulbs will help people realise that being energy efficient does not mean radically altering their existing lifestyles. Further, we have designed the programme to run over a year, to highlight that we need to switch attitudes as well as practices if we are going to make a difference,” he noted. (that's the way! The results of this and other ‘Switch!’ programme activities will form the basis for designs of future energy-efficient and sustainable townships, as well as help existing Sime Darby township residents contribute to efforts to address the global challenge of climate change.

“We want to help Malaysians become conscious of the energy choices they make,” said Dato’ Tunku Putra Badlishah. “If we can switch people onto the many small differences they can make at home everyday, the cumulative savings will be dramatic – both to their own energy bills and the planet as a whole,” he added.

Switch! is part of Sime Darby’s greater commitment to promote and practise energy efficiency throughout its own business operations and also by empowering consumers and the communities that use its products and services.

Sime Darby believes it is important to encourage efficient use of energy in households, reduce wastage of electricity and reduce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. The release of 100,000 bulbs into the community in the first phase of this ‘Switch!’ initiative reduces CO2 emissions by 65,000 tonnes.

The ES Bulb Programme is the first activity under Sime Darby ‘Switch!’ initiative and is supported by Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) and Majlis Perbandaran Kelang (MPK). Sime Darby will progressively conduct awareness-building and other energy efficiency campaigns in the future.

last night i was out at al-ehsan mamak (where else are the last three titular er animals tolerated with abandon?) near alfa college with a buddy.

we were sitting at a particularly vulnerable spot at a corner of the building. on the road of course. and definitely next to a drain.

i saw a motorbike with 2 guys on it coming towards us, slowly. and it seemed to slow down as it reached our table. i was like, "ohnooo goawaygoaway" *clutches bag*
why did i have to sit at the most snatch-thief friendly position of the table?! aaargh!

and then they slowed to a stop just about a foot from our table. and all of a sudden i heard the *whoosh-scrape* of a van door being quickly sliding open and footsteps thundering out on the tar towards me.
*what the crap, this wasnt some kind of conspiracy to kidnap poor little me right?!*

i swiveled as fast as i could to catch my would-be assailant's face so that i could identify him if anything. he was wearing a dark blue shirt and dark blue pants. looked like some kind of uniform.

and as he reached out his arm, he grabbed .. the empty chairs of the table next to me and started stacking them up.

yessiree, we were in the middle of a MBPJ sweep on illegal er invitations to treat of goods and services.

seriously, we give MBPJ less credit than deserved, much as i hate to acknowledge it.

they were reallly really efficient, - like hired mercenaries, the MBPJ dudes were dropped off one by one along the table-lined road at spots where the tables were empty so that they could quickly lay their grubby hands on the equally grubby tables and claim it as their own - and they were so fast!

usually the raids that we see at murni's, they never get anything because either they're slow or the murni waiters are like really fast.

but here, they just swept through the place amid the plaintive "heyy, heyy!" of the mamaks as they too scrambled to grab all other empty chairs, tables, mugs, plates and whatever before it was compounded. or whatever you call it. oh, confiscated! right.

once they had grabbed whatever they could, the MBPJ men just stood there (on guard?) while they called out what they had succesfully taken to a senior member.

i was actually quite traumatised. hahaha. i'd never seen it happen like this, so quickly, in front of my eyes before.
and as soon as they had gotten their booty, it was loaded into this giant MBPJ truck, and they were gone, as swiftly as they'd come.

a waiter strolled by us, flashed us a grin like nothing had happened and asked us if we'd ordered.
yeah, we had, thanks.

we'd just settled down back to our conversation for about 5-10mins, when i heard a female voice exclaim

eh, yau lei?!

and would you believe it, a SECOND batch of MBPJ fellas swept in, quickly took up whatever empty tables that had been just vacated by patrons, loaded it up into their van and ciao-ed.

none of us saw that coming. really.

my friend asked, what in the world do they do with all the chairs?
no idea. maybe they use it for those open house feasts during CNY etc. hahaha.

and oh well, run out of space to tell of the rats playing in the drain barely 2 feet away from us *eh, not bad what, we've only seen one or two*

and the cat that chased a cockroach around, caught it up in its mouth, carried it around, dropped it, let it run, and caught it again. i guess here we have to rewrite the 'cat-and-mouse game' saying. 'cat-and-cockroach' is the way to go!

maybe the size of the rats being almost as big as the cats has something to do with that.

after a long hiatus following a wave of apathy towards the continuance of this blog, i finally write a post inspired by a certain nasi kandar chain that my brother and other church friends have had a (unusual and unjustified) hankering to visit for lunch since last month.

no, this is not a rave review of the delicious nasi kandar, or the wonderful service, or the reasonable prices that i (wish i) faced today.

this is a post to tell the world why we should NOT go to this place.

however, due to the possibility of being open to claims of defamation, a topic yet to be studied (ie i dont know how to avoid getting caught for this tortious offence), i will not refer directly to this famous green-and-white themed restaurant chain originally from up north, but rather, by a pseudonym (hah!) which i believe would be more appropriate for their renaming.

so anyway.

after a long debate on which branch we should go to (ss2? kota damansara? the newly-opened-but-not-sure-if-authentic-or-not-branch-in-section 14?), we decided to go to the ss2 one. right.

i watched in noob-ness as my brother, King, initiated with the process of ordering the famous (now infamous, in my view anyway) CONYOU nasi kandar (hereinafter referred to as "CONYOU"), pointed at the stuff he wanted while explaining to me certain key points to the workings of the food ordering (something along the lines of "the fried chicken to be fried on the spot is rm6 -its d*** nice, compared to the already fried fried chicken which is only rm3.50. but dont order that, sucks one")

since i dont usually eat stuff other than rotis or naans at mamaks, i had previously asked if CONYOU served that kind of stuff during lunchtime, which other mamaks dont do sometimes. King enthusiastically said, of course got one la!
right.

when i ordered a roti, our waiter was like, *waving his hand and shaking his head while looking annoyed* "semua roti sudah habis. nasi nasi (ie nasi lemak etc) pun sudah habis".

nuts.

so four of us, who didn't want to eat the nasi kandar were resigned to eating maggi goreng/indomie goreng instead. i ordered a double indomie, remembering the wonderful savouriness of past indomies at the ss2 mamak, which could never be replicated at home for some reason.

King, the seemingly CONYOU expert, was the first to laugh in our faces
"what? you ordered indomie? double summore? you know its rm7.50? hahaha"
(i think to myself: WHAT?! this place really deserves its CONYOU name)
"the single is Rm4.50. it's d*** nice la, best indomie ever, but still 4.50 is alot to pay"
(sigh. okay. well, at least it will be good)
KW added, "when you come to a place like this, just follow the name la!"
(but .. i dont wanna pay rm14.00 for nasi kandar, however good it is.)

the situation now would've been just fine, until i saw to my (and the three other conned customers at my table) great indignation and chagrin that a table opposite us was being served not one, but THREE (3) roti telurs.
WHAT?! what happened to "semua roti habis?"

by now, i was quite pissed off about having been denied my roti kosong lunch, what more that this guy freaking lied to us to our faces. what the crap?! (he will be referred to as the LIAR from now on for easier reference). here, i was mulling over suing them for misrepresentation but decided to bide my time figuring that the indomie might be able to overcome what misgivings i was having about this whole to-do.

moments later our indomie arrived. that was even a bigger disappointment. it was far from the rich dark brown colour i legitimately expected, this i suppose having something to do with the fact that between 3 of us, we had ordered 2 double indomies and one single, thus breaking the unsaid rule to never order the same dishes at the same time or risk getting a mass-produced ie lousier quality/tasting food. it had bits of egg, tofu and one more thing that i cant remember, the experience was too painful. haha. but really, since when does indomie come with stuff like this? i was secretly hitting myself on the forehead for not bringing my camera to take a shot of this foul (ok, so thats pushing it a little) food daringly and impudently served up by the famous CONYOU.

hoping against hope that my double indomie's looks were deceiving, i tried a taste.

nope, it wasn't deceiving at all. it tasted (for the lack of a better word) the same as it looked. tasteless.

best indomie in the world my ass.

having lost my appetite from being blatantly lied to and then receiving totally unsatisfactory food, i ended up giving half of it to an appreciative (for the free food, and because he was hungry, not for the goodness) but equally dissatisfied friend.

my brother later asked the Liar;
"tadi you cakap tak ada roti, tapi mengapa mereka *points at other table* dapat roti?"

the Liar shows some unreadable expression (the appropriate adjective being rather uncouth for this family friendly blog) before spewing out more lies (again, BS being the better word, but i'm not going to swear, am i? haha):
"oh, itu order special. special order. semalam punya."

er, okay, so that family specially ordered 3 roti telurs (or whatever they were) yesterday? right.
utter rubbish.

and thats not even the end of it.
another friend ordered nasi briyani, but ended up paying for a piece of curry chicken he hadnt' ordered which was sneakily hidden under the rice, curry and the other regular side dishes.

KW's complaint was that he got a load of potatoes instead of the mutton/beef/whatever pieces he was supposed to get

the sole mitigation (though not in my books) was that the Liar charged us rm6.50 for our double indomie/maggi mee instead of the usual rm7.50. someone joked that maybe the cook made a mistake and so they decided to slash of one buck. maybe the Liar saw the discontentment on the faces of the four mee eaters who suffered through their unpalatable lunch. HAH.

thus the 7 of us arrived hungry and reasonably expectant of a good meal but 6 of us (King being the sole triumphantly satisfied CONYOU customer, but leaving the place rm14.00 less richer than when he arrived) left disgruntled about some part/most/all of the meal.

KW said, "yeah, we'll complain and complain, but then, we'll end up coming back here next week."

sorry, not for me. they've lost me forever as a customer.

with this i conclude that CONYOU, in all its history of 60+ years, has been a disappointment, been severely overrated and to my amazement, is still highly patronised despite its ridiculous prices (rm25.00 for a serving of sotong?!).

give me chicken rice any day.

readers, be warned. this is a what-i-did-today post.

for the first time in my life, i didn't have to wait for people before we started. because they had already started when i arrived. sighhhh. (don't go to gasing on saturday mornings! there's no parking space left even at 7.45)

but ash came back to get me, and i was thinking
"awwww how nice of him"

until he was like, "come on waiyi, let's jog up so we can catch the other two!"

er .. jog .. UP?! as in UP the friggin bukit gasing?!

thinking i'd better save face, i said with much cleverly-hidden-reluctance (he obviously didn't know because he asked me twice to run uphill. ), "er okay.."

it was the least i could do after he came back to get me right? anyway i think he was just trying to catch up with his girlfriend after having had abandoned her momentarily to fetch poor tardy me

bad decision.

i huffed and puffed all the way up, trying to hide my breathlessness by covering my mouth with my shirt. don't think it worked much though, because when i asked ash if he could hear my wheezing away, he was like, "aiya, everybody is like that one what." nice save, ash.. didn't really make me feel much better tho.

so we trekked/ran in 10 minutes what they had done in 20. right. i can sooo go for ironwoman right now.

so we arrived at the suspension bridge, having yet to meet up with becca and sowmya.

the bridge is kinda titchy tho. i thot it was massive. snore.

i was kinda worried ash would increase our pace even more in search of those two. thankfully, we met them.
they had CHEATED and gone DOWN what we were supposed to go UP .. the KILLER HILL.

really. the routes i've taken previously don't hold a candle to it.

now THAT was the huffer-puffer route. omg. i could've blown down the 3rd little pig's brick house man. ahhahaha.

What I do when I'm bored

writer's block

my friend had writer's block once. it was big, white and sitting on his table.

too bad mine isn't as material as that. hahaha

anyway, the blog guru says that

actually its quite true tau, cos i just remembered two things that i wanted to blog about.

Mistake#1
A couple of weeks ago my sister complained that she had found a tick (horrors!!) on fluffy (my dog). so one night I actually saw a tick stuck to her eye (fluffy's eye, obviously, and not my sister's haha) so I called X (names have been changed to protect identities) to come and get it off (obviously, removing ticks from dogs don't exactly appeal to me) (why do I have so many parantheses)

so X proceeded to professionally remove it (after having had 7 dogs in the past 20 years I guess certain things just come easily) and proceeded to check her whole body also la, the gist of that being

X: "Fluffy, sit"
*fluffy sits*

X: "Lie down"
*fluffy lifts paw up to "shake"*

X: "No, lie down la"
*fluffy lifts other paw to shake*

X: *resigned grunt* *pushes fluffy over*
*fluffy flops down*

(random thought: fluffy now seems like a really .. girly floaty er fluffy name. strange. never occurred to me before. anyway. (yesss i'm coming to the mistake part chill out can or not)

so X begins to check fluffy chest downwards and suddenly goes like

X: "Eh, what is this!! so big one"

Me: "Heh? What? Where?"

X: "This la!" *fiddles with something roundish, dark-coloured and stuck to fluffy's doggy chest*

Me: *aghast silence* What the ...
*choked laughter, slapping thighs and the general antics of a Malaysian laughing her butt off*

X had mistook (mistaken?) fluffy's nipples for ticks! HAHAHHAHAHA
*Note in defence of X: they were unusually swollen and funny-coloured tho

[due to protest from certain quarters I shall not upload a picture of the offending appendage. snigger]

Mistake #2

I don't know if dickson (if I typed it as just "dicks" it looks weird especially after what I just wrote haha) blogged about this, but

anyway, suddenly I'm too lazy to blog about it so you have to ask dicks himself about calling the wrong radio station. he even put on this oh-so-professional voice ... only to find out it was the wrong number. hahahhaa.

and there you go, I have run out of steam again. ah welll till next time :)

It's times like these that I know I need to be doing something. But I just can't. Somehow.

Anyway. Today I came across this really deep, interesting poem in a sappy korean drama (yeah, places you'd never think of come up with true gems sometimes somehow).

It's titled

"The dream of a seagull"

Okay so seeing that I already edited it somewhat, its not exactly as eloquent as it could be

So what do you get when you team up a dictator, a small package, an unwell Mr Strong, an unconventional rabbit, a self-proclaimed 21 yr old mother, a temporary cripple, a TDH (tall dark handsome) community serviceman, a princess, and a average jane?
(no this is not a joke)

TOGETHER, we:

1) unloaded a bunch of bricks and sand for resurfacing

2) ironed uniforms

the princess ...

and the temporary cripple :P

3) cleaned the aquarium and brought in reinforcements after the silent deaths of all previous marine residents

getting the past dug up for me

WHOA you would never guess that I, a non-blogger-but-now-getting-on-a-roll, would have had no less than 3 other blogs in the past (albeit only one of them had published posts) and 2 attempts at setting up a(nother) blog, all in the space of 4 years or so.

Thanks to the efficiency of Blogger Support, my inbox was recently flooded with blog-reclamation emails, prompting much surprise (and embarassment after reading the posts published!) and the subsequent deleting of them all. haha. But its great that after having given up all hope of retrieving my passwords (compounded in part by my being unable to remember the blog names in the first place), I've had a chance to revisit the past (ah, the drama-ness of it all) because I can see how much my thought process has evolved since then, and how my (then) prided maturity-beyond-my-years was never actually what I thought it was.

In writing now I understand why there are so many thousands (a gross underestimate, perhaps?) of blogs around, most of which never really have much impact generally. I find that, when thoughts come about and start to balloon and develop and contradict and eventually muddle up to pool into a sea of unorganised er thought, it makes it much easier to set it all out in writing on paper - or in this case, in a blog.

And from when I once wondered why people displayed so much of their private life on their blogs ("Don't these people want any privacy, dahla a detailed account of your everyday activities, but also of their thoughts/emotions?!"), I now know that perhaps in sharing they hope they can help others who might be in the same muddle as they are. Or perhaps maybe that's what I want to do.. sometimes. Maybe. Hmmm.

I'm a private person. I don't share much unless I'm really close to a person, and even then, I sort out (through an uber-fine filter apparently, hint some friends) what I feel I'm ready to share and what I don't want to share. It could be just simple things like a crush on a boy (which would already send some people reeling .. hahaha yes, I am that private), or deeper things of faith, musings, love, God. Perhaps in human terms it boils down also to confidence in myself, in my thoughts, in what I believe in, and also how I feel I am perceived, and how I feel I am obligated to uphold that perception.

But I believe also in God, and how I should feel secure in Him and how His love and grace is sufficient for me, and there is nothing to prove before God because He takes me for who I am. They are solid theories in mind, but need to be developed in the heart and spirit. It is then this journey of life (cliche, yet would people use it if not for it's truth?) that I walk to discover myself - my true self. The self not dependant on others' demands, judgments, perceptions.

But yet not alone do I walk this path, for it is Christ that I find myself, and inevitably, my freedom.

So I’m beginning this blog. Without anything to say. While I should be doing my Consti assignment. Which begs the question of the whole point of starting up.

But anyway.

I’ve actually always wanted a blog. Then I always didn’t want a blog. And now that a lot of my friends are blogging, I feel like blogging too. So much for individuality.

So I’m thinking. What kind of blog should I have?

One that is politically active? Nah. I would have to get my facts right and come up with original thoughts of which mine are unfortunately, all taken up with Consti right now.

One that is funny, entertaining? That would be too much effort. Dah la I try my best to make people laugh at my lame jokes (which, incidentally, are not MINE at all but just stuff that I get off random people. My true lightbulb *TING* moments are always forgotten for some reason. I can only remember like, hmmm.. the quin-halloween-mask one, the eunice-amoeba one, and .. today’s one-two-JUICE one which is actually lin’s idea so that doesn’t count. Sighhh) what more churn out daily, weekly, er whenever-i-have-time-to-update entries.

The deep, thought-provoking type? I actually meant to do that with my first blog which unfortunately died after my first entry which I don’t think I even published. It was at my draft stage! I think I was trying to explain my stand on single≠available .. but .. hmm. Maybe I was confused then. Which reminds me of a topic I should write about. My “intimacy issues” (HAHA quin and fariz)

Lastly, the hey-everyone-this-is-what-i-did-today blog. I think the world needs less of these blogs where they tell you what they wore (first, I put on my mascara. After that I put on my foundation. *hmm, is that the other way round?*), who they saw, what they ate etc etc. (exclusion clause: unless of course it contains some entertaining snippets that will make me laugh or pictures or something) SNORE. GIVE ME SOME SUBSTANCE MAN! Which is one of my worries - that this blog will end up something to that effect.

I suppose I shouldn’t do that whats-going-on-in-my-head type either, because people might get scared and start giving me worried looks. HAHA kidding. I guess I don’t like telling people what I’m feeling etc etc. Intimacy issues striking up? Beats me. HAHAHA geddit geddit.

This is a pretty long entry about nothing and about not knowing what to write. Here’s to better content in the next ones. Hehe.
